The Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative was awarded a DESE grant to organize, plan and run the 2011 Massachusetts New Literacies Institute. This year it will once again be held at the Microsoft Research Center in Cambridge MA. the week of July 18-22. Jim Walker, Zach Smith and Polly Parker have been asked by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to represent the MA New Literacies Institute at the MassCUE conference on Oct 28. We will have space at a table for a poster presentation and a PowerPoint. On Oct 15, 2010 the Massachusetts New Literacies Institute had its first follow-up session at the Microsoft offices in Waltham, MA. 88 teachers attended the all day session. Bio
Jim has a MA in Art Education from Univ. of New Mexico and MS in Special Education from Marywood University. He has been a special ed teacher for 21 years at the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative. Jim has been integrating technology into his classrooms since Apple IIe and dial up. He developed and ran the LPVEC web site for 10 years, and helped other teachers integrate technology into their classrooms. Jim developed Moodle classes for his class and taught online courses in Classroom Behavior Management. He was one of five Massachusetts teachers to complete the EDC EdTech Leaders Online course. Jim has developed a Web 2.0 teacher training sit at www.learning2oh/moodle. He is now the Online Technology Coordinator at the LPVEC and is completing the course work to get a Moodle Course Creator Certificate.
